Happy Face app – how and why we made it

We've recently launched a new app called Happy Face to the app store. It's an app to help parents encourage good behaviour from their kids whilst out and about. Think of it as a naughty step in your pocket. Except it's a lot more fun. And you don't have to say "unceptable" instead of "unacceptable". And it looks cool. Here is the story of how and why we created it.

Spotify App Test

For quite a while we've been running Spotifriday in the KentLyons studio. We choose a subject (Animals, Mothers, Lost... the subjects are pretty random), and everyone has to choose 3 tracks on Spotify. There are some rules (no repeats, one track per artist, you have to actually like the song), but it often yields some nice results.

Goodbye Xmas – hello +mas!

Xmas is rubbish, and everyone knows it. Not Christmas – Christmas is fantastic. I’m talking about the word Xmas – it’s awful. It feels negative, cheap, tacky… It is short, and that is in its favour, but other than that,

Insectype

Whilst not making websites for KentLyons, I'm studying for an MA in Graphic Design at London College of Communication. These newspapers are the end result of a type design project, and have just arrived back from Newspaper Club.

Our brief was to select a set of related objects, from which we would then produce a family of pictograms. These pictograms were to provide the basis for a set of glyphs for an unknown language/writing system. I chose to base my final glyphs on an Armenian typeface, Maral.
