Pulp–Paper Launch

After two and half years in the making we have finally launched our book Pulp–Paper. The book is a joint project with Generation Press, GF Smith and James Cropper Paper Mill.

The project started life as a question to GF Smith: “Can we see how your paper is made?”. After that point it seemed to take on a life of its own and has become a 128 page book documenting the process of making paper and discussing our continued and changing relationship with it.

The book contains a wide variety of stocks produced at the mill in the Lake District and features a section of pulp sheet mounted to the front cover.
A special Smoke/Generation Barry duplexed slipcase was produced for the books given out on the night.

Paper Making In SE1
We invited the mill’s colour technician Barrie Forrest (one of the only men in the country to have a shade of Colorplan named after him) to come and show everyone how they make and colour paper in the colour lab before it is produced on a large scale. Once the beer had been flowing a few of us tried our hands at it to varying success.

You can watch a video of the evening here.
You can see the book in more detail on our site.

Enjoy, and thanks to everyone that has worked on the book and came to launch party.

New: Buy the book from the Design Museum
